Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Bashertz collects, uses, and shares information when you use our Service. We aim to be direct about what we do with your data.

What we collect

• Account information. Email address, and optionally phone number, used to sign in.
• Profile information. Name, date of birth, gender, location, photos, denomination, observance, heritage, halachic status, life stage, prompts, preferences. You choose what to provide.
• Usage data. Swipes, likes, matches, messages, which profiles you view, and how the app is used.
• Device and log data. IP address, browser, device type, timestamps, and errors, used to operate, secure, and improve the Service.
• Support communications. Messages you send to our help assistant or support team, including the AI assistant conversation, so we can answer you and improve support. A team member may review them.
• Product analytics. Aggregate events about how the Service is used (for example a signup or a match), used to understand and improve the product.

How we use it

• Provide and operate the Service, including the matching algorithm.
• Let other users discover your profile when you match their filters.
• Send transactional email (match alerts, security notices, policy updates).
• Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, and policy violations.
• Improve matching quality and product features, in aggregate.

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your profile with advertisers. We do not use your profile photos to train AI models.

Automated safety review

To keep the community safe, we use automated systems, including artificial intelligence, to review messages, profile text, and photos for violations of our community guidelines, such as harassment, hate, illegal activity, scams, and commercial misuse of the platform. Automated review never takes action on its own. Every case it raises is reviewed by a person, and only a person can make a decision that affects an account. Review records are visible only to our safety team, and access to conversation content is logged and audited. Content reviewed this way is processed under paid API terms and is not used to train the models involved.

AI features

Bashertz uses AI to help suggest compatible matches. Features named as the AI Shadchan, such as the stated reason an introduction is suggested and optional message suggestions you request in chat, are generated by artificial intelligence models. These requests are routed through OpenRouter, our AI gateway, to model providers under an account data policy set to exclude endpoints that train on member content. AI features never act on your behalf without you, and a person, not a model, makes every decision that affects an account.

Who we share with

• Other users. Your profile is visible to matches and to users of the opposite gender users who meet your filters.
• Service providers. Supabase (hosting, auth, storage), Vercel (hosting), Resend (email), Stripe (payments, if you subscribe), Google (OAuth, if you sign in that way, and AI safety review), and OpenRouter (the AI gateway carrying AI Shadchan requests to model providers under a no training data policy).
• Legal process.If required by valid legal process, or to protect users' safety or our rights.

Photo verification

Photo verification is optional. If you choose to verify, we collect one selfie photo, used only to confirm that your profile photos are really you. Our review team looks at it by hand and compares it with your profile photos. We do not run automated face matching on it today.

• Who sees it. Only our review team. Your verification selfie is never shown to other members and never appears on your profile. Other members only see the photo verified badge once a request is approved.
• Retention. We keep your verification selfie only long enough to review it. It is deleted from our storage within 30 days of a decision, and in practice we delete it immediately once a request is approved or declined.
• Your choice. You can request verification at any time from Settings. Skipping or declining verification never affects whether you appear to other members.
• Deletion on request. To ask us to delete a pending verification selfie before it is reviewed, email privacy@bashertz.com.

Your choices

• Access & edit. Your profile is editable at any time from Settings.
• Delete account. You can delete your account and associated data from Settings → Account. Deletion is immediate. Some data may be retained in anonymized form for fraud prevention and legal compliance.
• Export. Request a copy of your data at privacy@bashertz.com.
• Notifications. Manage email preferences in Settings.

Security

We use industry standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Passwords are never stored in plaintext. API keys and third party credentials are encrypted with 256 bit AES in GCM mode before storage.

Data retention

We retain account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, profile data is removed within 30 days. Support and legal records may be kept up to 7 years.

Children

The Service is not for anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected data from a minor, contact us and we'll delete it.

International users

Bashertz is operated in the United States. By using the Service you consent to the transfer and processing of your data in the US under US law.

GDPR & CCPA

If you are in the EEA, UK, or California, you have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact privacy@bashertz.com to exercise these rights.

Cookies and tracking

We use cookies to run the app and, with your consent, to measure use and show relevant ads. See our Cookie Policy for the full list. Sign in and session cookies are necessary and always on. In Canada we collect explicit consent for analytics and advertising cookies, and you can change your choice anytime from the banner at the bottom of the page.

Email, marketing, and unsubscribe

When you ask us to, we send launch updates, news, and offers by email. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, by visiting our unsubscribe page, or by emailing hello@bashertz.com. We honor every request promptly, and within 10 business days at the latest. Transactional messages (sign in links, security notices, match alerts) are separate and are not marketing.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be communicated by email or in app notice at least 14 days before taking effect.
